People are faced with hundreds of choices every day. Everything in life is a choice. Even the things that are thrust upon us qualify, because we choose our response to those things.
Right now, I am particularly aware of several folks that are hurting. They are facing the breakup of a marriage, a family, loss of a loved one, financial crisis…the list goes on. Circumstances are designed to teach us, if we will accept the lesson. Many people aren’t interested in the lesson. This is a grave mistake.
One indiviual I know has been through a rough time. Job loss, financial complications, you name it. It has put a strain on his family. As I review the circumstances, there are great lessons to be learned. The family has been forced to make adjustments. No vacations, no random trips to the mall. No eating out whenever it’s inconvenient to cook. Setting up bills on payment plans. Maxing out credit cards. It has been a real change.
Throughout these challenges these folks have gained great insight. Insight into the importance of the things that money can’t buy. The importance of working together and relying on each other in tough times. The peace that comes from living more simply. The perspective that comes from navigating adversity.
What a master’s class in life…we spend so much of our time worrying about things, when people and relationships are all that really matter. How about you? How much time and energy do you put into the most important people in your life? Things are not to be our master; they are to be our servant. We are often required to deal with them, but cannot let them dictate our lives. People matter. Relationships matter. Find an opportunity today to tell the right person in your life:
You are the most important person; and I am not afraid of things.
